Course Overview

The goal of this course is to expose students to the research field of close relationships as well as to the methodologies relevant to this field. In the first part of the course the most central topics in this field will be reviewed, including: relational cognitions and motivations, dyadic empathy, support processes, conflict, sexuality, and individual differences in dyadic processes. In the second part of the course, the students, working in small groups, will establish a research proposal, collect and analyze data, and submit a research report..

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Review and evaluate the key empirical theories and findings in the close relationship literature. 

Establish and formulate new empirical questions concerning daily processes in romantic relationships.

Design and conduct a study using the daily diaries method.

Write a scientific report on their empirical work.​
