Fellowships of Excellence for Doctoral Studies
in Medical Biotechnology
A Multi-Disciplinary, Inter-Faculty Program
Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field comprising a series of enabling technologies drawn from the fields of microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, fermentation technology, environmental science and engineering which allow one to synthesize, breakdown or transform materials to suit human needs. In recent years, there has been a sharp increase in demand for outstanding researches trained in biotechnology. Accordingly, fellowships of excellence for doctoral studies in medical biotechnology aim to provide candidates with the educational and practical skills necessary to become leaders in the fast-growing industrial and academic biotechnology and bioengineering sectors.
Program essence: The program of Fellowships of Excellence for Doctoral Studies in Medical Biotechnology at Ben-Gurion University in the Negev is a program unique of its kind in Israel. The program is intended for outstanding students with the diverse capabilities and promotes integrated research in bio-medicine, physics, chemistry and engineering. The program is designed to train researchers with unique skills, capable of exploring various topics in biotechnology from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Nature of the studies: The program is run under the auspices of the Kreitman School for Advanced Graduate Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Courses are offered in English and will include core studies of key areas in biotechnology, research methods, seminars in inter-disciplinary research, specialized courses and scientific writing workshops.
Mentor and research topic: Doctoral research will be supervised by two scientists from different disciplines. Students will select three prioritized choices form a list of prospective mentors and their research topics. Choices of mentor and research topic will be submitted at the time of application.
Admission requirements: Applicants will hold M.Sc. (for the 4 year Ph.D. track) or B.Sc.
