My research and teaching areas are cultural and social history of the Middle East in the modern and early modern periods. Recently I have completed a study on sexuality and sexual discourse from 1500 to 1900. Other topics I have written on or taught about are Ottoman Palestine, Palestinian society, household and slavery in the Ottoman empire and modern Islam.
