The Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is currently in the final stages of a broad and comprehensive strategic planning process, encompassing all faculty units, aimed at formulating and implementing the Faculty's vision and strategic focus areas. We began the process about a year ago, with extensive discussions among faculty, staff, and students, and have since examined and considered our mission, our vision, our values, and just about every aspect of research and education at the Faculty.

The strategic process has helped us define our value chain – from labs and research to individual and patient wellbeing to the community and society at large – enabling us to articulate our vision statement:

Together we will lead the way to scientific, educational, and clinical excellence, through an integrative multidisciplinary approach reflecting a profound commitment to individual and communal health in the Negev, in Israel, and around the world.

Concurrently we defined three strategic areas in which to concentrate our efforts in order to realize this vision:

· Excellence in groundbreaking research through an emphasis on focal points and applied  research, based on cooperation between researchers in basic sciences and clinical practitioners.

· Leadership in the training of tomorrow's healthcare professionals.

· Generating broad public health impact by establishing strategic partnerships across academia,  industry, and the community.

We are presently working on stage four of the process – design – which includes strategic mapping, revision of the faculty structure, and work plans for implementation. Further details on our progress will be presented in our next newsletter; in the meantime, you can follow us in Hebrew on the Strategic Process website.
