The Mandel Social Leadership MBA Program is a unique part of BGU`s Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management GGFBM because it provides the skills needed to create and sustain not-for-profit NGO's. The candidates selected for this program are not only excellent students but also passionate about tikkun olam, making the world a better place.
The five students who competed in this year`s John Molson MBA International Case Competition represent a wide range of interests but have one common goal - to use their knowledge, wisdom and energy to create social change. Just look at their CV`s to get a sense of the enormous potential they represent:
-Hagar Yaacoby manages an organization that supports families with economic difficulties through psychological and financial guidance;
-Oren Sarig is committed to improving services for Israel`s hearing-impaired population;
-Osnat Glikstien has volunteered in LGBT causes, Seeds of Peace and Medical Clowns and currently manages the Negev Coexistence Forum;
-Noa Cohen is a social worker dealing with young girls at risk and an activist in an organization building urban communities for young adults;
-Alon Nissan is Director of the BGU Student Union`s International Affairs Office and head of the Social Involvement Department.
Combining their passions with the complexities of business management is a formidable task. Competing at the John Molson event has exposed our students to multiple challenges: getting to the heart of the cases they are presented with (multiple-page documents in English); developing a strategy to solve each case; creating a financial underpinning for this solution; providing graphics to illustrate their ideas; presenting to a panel of judges - in English - in a tightly-restricted time frame and, finally, answering the judges` questions. The competitors were assisted by Meital Magid, a veteran competitor and coach for the last several years.
Calling themselves Camel Consulting, the team competed in five cases against opponents from Porto Business School (Portugal), Haskeyne School of Business (University of Calgary), Memorial University, Queensland University of Technology and the University of Southern California. They ended the week with a win and a total of 68 points and a tremendous amount of knowledge gained and confidence boosted.
For the ninth consecutive year, CABGU has provided funding to include GGFBM BGU students in the John Molson Competition, as well as enthusiastic cheerleading, tours of Montreal, multiple meals and heartfelt moral support, and has showcased Israel at this prestigious event.
Thanks are due to the many, many people who made this endeavor possible!
