I will discuss how children interpret “or” under negation and recursive negative expression (“neither… nor”) in child language. Data from several early languages (Italian, French, Catalan, Hungarian, Dutch) will be presented that show expected and unexpected variations. It will be claimed that these data may suggest that close negative concord systems are not alike and that the acquisition of negative expressions per se may not be problematic. Finally, I will show how one form of bilingualism may affect the interpretation of negated disjunction.
