How to Find an Advisor

Many academic programs at BGU require finding an advisor prior to completing your application. Please see a list of relevant programs below.

When applying for a Postdoc position, a Ph.D., an academic internship, or some of our MSc programs, your advisor is the head of the research group you will be joining, and together you will choose your specific research topic. In order to be accepted into the program of your choosing, you first need to find an advisor.

Thus, your first step is to connect with someone who is a researcher in your field of interest. You can search on the BGU Research Portal, where you can search based on your research topic, academic department, faculty, or the name of the faculty member.

For specific programs, you can visit the Department Website:

If you are applying to any of the Departments of the Faculty of Engineering, you can find a list of potential advisors and their research fields on their website.

If you are applying to the Life Sciences Department, you can find a list of potential advisors and their research fields on their website.

If you are applying to the Physics Department, you can find a list of potential research topics and advisors on their website.

If you are applying to the Geological and Environmental Studies Department, you can find a list of potential advisors and research fields on their website.

If you are applying to the Chemistry Department, you can find a list of potential advisors and their research fields on their website.

If you are applying to the Mathematics Department, you can find a list of potential advisors and their research fields on their website.

Once you have identified potential advisors, you should send an e-mail to the researcher introducing yourself, including your CV and any relevant information about your background. You will probably be invited to online meetings (or interviews). Once you have secured an advisor, you can proceed to apply to the selected program by clicking the button below.

Tips for Success

- You can contact more than one researcher at a time.
