The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev will conduct joint research in the field of sustainability. A conference on Monday revealed the five joint research projects that will kick off the "Partnership for Sustainability."
The president of each university put up $100,000. Each project will be supported with grants of $25,000-$45,000. On Monday, each funded project presented its research goals.
The projects include:
Aliza Fleischer (HUJI), Iddo Kan (HUJI), Ofir Rubin (BGU) "Evaluation of the impact of integrated photovoltaic and agricultural greenhouses systems (PVGs) on the value of the agricultural ecosystem services"
Liron Shani (HUJI), Niv DeMalach (HUJI), Na'ama Teschner (BGU) "An integrated model for optimal management of alien species - the case of the eucalyptus"
Itay Fishhendle (HUJI), Yahel Havatzelet (BGU), Tal Svoray (BGU) "Space-time diffusion of renewable energy among Bedouins"
Alva Peled (BGU), Shlomo Magdassi (HUJI) "Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) for minimizing CO2 emissions and water waste"
Oz Kira (BGU), José M. Grünzweig (HUJI) "Green infrastructure for mitigating climate change in cities"
Prof. Yaron Ziv (pictured above left) director of BGU's School of Sustainability and Climate Change, "Combining research forces guarantees an all systems perspective – societal, financial, and environmental – to understand processes and to find the necessary solutions. That great news for future generations will emerge from here."
Prof. Yael Mishael (pictured above right), director of the Hebrew University Center for Sustainability, "We should join forces on the urgent topics we address to arrive at deep understandings of the challenges and to develop solutions. The partnership has already engendered new and fascinating research approaches."
