Remembering Rhodes and the Holocaust: Intergenerational Trauma, Nostalgia and Identity
A lecture by Dr. Milena Callegari Cosentino (University of Limerick, Ireland)
ABOUT THE TALK
This study examines the transmission of life experiences from Holocaust survivors and Jews of the diaspora from Rhodes to their descendants and diasporic communities. The oral history interviews of three generations demonstrate aspects of transgenerational trauma and nostalgia; individual and collective memory, followed by the memorialization process; as well as identity formation through the lens of the Holocaust, culture, and meaningful relationships.

Dr. Milena Callegari Cosentino (pictured below) is a trained psychologist (BA/MSc University of Sao Paulo, Brazil) and has a Ph.D. in History and Psychology (University of Limerick, Ireland). Her research focuses on how trauma, memory, nostalgia, and identity can be transmitted across generations, using the Holocaust as a case study.
