Despite the corona virus outbreak which led to the cancellation of frontal lectures and conferences, BGU has made a point of recognizing its lecturers and their achievements.

“Unfortunately, the award ceremony will not take place as planned due to the current situation, but of course we would like to thank them for their efforts and achievements. This is an opportunity to recognize those who won awards and to thank them." said BGU's Rector Prof. Chaim Hames (pictured below).

“I am pleased to congratulate those who have been awarded the Rector's Prize for Excellence in Teaching for the Academic Year 2018-2019. Teaching is an inherent part of our work as researchers and it is a pleasure to show our respect and admiration for those who go above and beyond and receive appreciation from their students," he added.

Every year awards for excellence are given under the auspices of the Roth Prize for Excellence in Teaching, the Glatt Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Prize from the Unit for the Advancement of Quality Teaching and Learning.

Roth Prize for Excellence in Teaching
This prize was established by Mr. Lenny Roth in honor of his father, Prof. Charles Roth. The purpose of the prize is to allow BGU students to honor a lecturer who had a decisive influence on their lives in general and academic life in particular. This year the award was given to three lecturers, who received outstanding appreciation from the students.

This year all the awardees are from the Faculty of Natural Sciences:
Prof. Amos Bouskila – Department of Natural Sciences
Dr. Gili Golan – Department of Mathematics
Dr. Dennis Gulko – also from the Department of Mathematics, won the Roth Prize and was also  awarded “Most Inspiring Lecturer Award" by the Israeli National Student Union.

Glatt Award for Excellence in Teaching
The Glatt Award is awarded by Adv. Herman Glatt in memory of his parents, the late Luba and David Glatt, who loved Israel and who were active members of Zionist movements in the US. The award is given to outstanding lecturers, whose teaching grade is the highest in each faculty according to size. The lecturers are chosen on the basis of a poll of students.
