The Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management (GGFBM) at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has broken into the 2016 Corporate Knights Better World MBA Ranking. It is the first time BGU has appeared on the global ranking.

“The Better World MBA Ranking remains the only major ranking that evaluates accredited MBA programs’ commitment to sustainability education for future business leaders, equipping graduates to solve pressing business and social challenges and succeed in a rapidly changing global business climate.”

Compared to traditional MBA rankings, the Better World MBA ranking is designed to help students and corporate leaders identify solid programs that have the infrastructure to support sustainability skills and knowledge. The rules-based ranking also recognizes those programs which best prepare graduates to solve business problems that intersect with larger social problems, such as climate change and inequality. The Better World MBA ranking evaluates the top 100 programs on the 2016 FT Global MBA ranking, and invites all other accredited (AMBA, AACSB, EQUIS) programs to opt-in. This year, Corporate Knights evaluated 123 programs in total.

The GGFBM reached #37 on the list. The Ranking denotes infrastructure that the GGFBM has been implementing in recent years with courses as-yet unmatched by other business schools: Program for Economic and Social Development in the Negev, Organizational Sustainability, Environmental Management of Business, Work Integration Social Enterprises, Strategies for Sustainability Management. Furthermore, unique research in the GGFBM was recognized by the Corporate Knights, such as “Assessing the Rebound Effect Using a Natural Experiment Setting: Evidence from the Private Transportation Sector in Israel,” published in the journal Energy Policy.  The GGFBM is making headway for a young business faculty and this is another sign of growing global recognition. The Mandel Social Leadership MBA Program, itself a groundbreaking degree program for a business school, was also recently accredited with EPAS status by EFMD, the only Israeli MBA program to be recognized by the European business school accreditation organization.

Prof. Oded Lowengart, GGFMB Dean, explains the importance of Corporate Knights Better World ranking: "This is an important endorsement of the GGFBM's intensive endeavors in the short years since its establishment to integrate sustainability education in management studies, and to imbue community values into business leadership. Furthermore, this is also recognition of our Faculty's forays into global involvement and expansion."

The Mandel Social Leadership MBA Program, itself a groundbreaking degree program for a business school, was also recently accredited with EPAS status by EFMD, the only Israeli MBA program to be recognized by the European business school accreditation organization.

Eligible programs for the Better World MBA Ranking are assessed on the number of core courses related to sustainability (which includes corporate responsibility and ethics), institutes and centers devoted to the field, and faculty research related to sustainability produced in the last three years. The ranking is designed to be objective, transparent, and encourage participation.
