Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Community Health Sciences
Faculty of Health Sciences
My life before BGU:
I was born in Argaman, a moshav (agricultural settlement) in the Jordan Valley, where I grew up. I attended the Israel Arts and Science high school in Jerusalem. I studied for all three of my degrees here, at Ben-Gurion University: an undergraduate degree in behavioral sciences, a master’s in clinical psychology and a PhD in the Department of Psychology. After working at the Soroka Medical Center as a specialist clinician, I went to the US for a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. As a postdoc, I was part of a research group studying post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD).
Why BGU?
Academically, BGU is where I grew up, and this place feels like a home of sorts. Beyond that, the department I am joining conducts very interesting research on medicine and mental health that straddles the border between basic and applied science. It enables continued research in this field using advanced methods.
My research:
I am interested in the development of mental disorders as a result of exposure to stress, particularly PTSD. My research examines mechanisms for change and various interventions to treat this disorder.
An insight from my research:
The phrase “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is simply not true. Stress events affect us all, and we need to be aware of their impact.
Something that doesn't appear on my CV:
I sometimes dabble in music.
A source of inspiration:
My family.
When I grow up:
I was always interested in people's feelings and emotions.
Today? I would like to contribute to improving the quality of life of people who have been exposed to traumatic events.
If I wasn’t a researcher, I would...
Just clinical practice.
