During the traditional concert sponsored by the Rector’s Office marking the end of the academic year, certificates of excellence were awarded to outstanding lecturers and researchers.

The Toronto Award for excellence in research sponsored by the University Associates Foundation in Toronto, Canada is awarded to young researchers for their creativity and intellectual ability and for their remarkable achievements in the fields of science, technology, medicine, humanities and social sciences, and their contribution to the welfare of the community. The award is intended to help the researchers purchase equipment to improve their research methods. Award winners this year are Dr. Catherine Rottenberg of the Department of Foreign Literatures and Linguistics, Dr. Amir Grinstein from the Department of Management, Dr. Eli Lewis from the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Dr. Lior Rokach of the Department of Information Systems Engineering, Prof. Ashraf Brik of the Department of Chemistry, and Dr. Shimon Rachmilevich from the Institute for Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands.

At the event the Roth Prize for Excellence in Teaching was also awarded, which allows BGU students to honor a lecturer who had a decisive influence on their lives in general and academic life in particular. This year the prize was awarded to Dr. Eyal Gur, a young lecturer who received exceptional evaluations from the students he taught.

In addition, for the first time the Glatt Award for Excellence in Teaching was presented, given to a lecturer who has made the Rector’s Honors List as least three times during the last 5 years. The award was given to Dr. Idit Katz of the Department of Education.
