Prof. Ariel Feldestein recently became the new Academic Secretary at BGU, the first professor ever to fill this role at an Israeli research university. Feldestein replaces Avraham Bar-On who recently left the position after 29 years in office.  

Prof. Feldestein has a B.A. in history from BGU, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Avraham Harman Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Over the last ten years he served as Dean of Student Affairs and Head of Academic Affairs at Sapir College in Sderot. He is the Chair of the Public Council for the Commemoration of Theodor Herzl, a position he fills on a voluntary basis.  

Prof. Feldestein is a historian specializing in the research of the Zionist idea and the collective memory, especially issues related to the Zionist narrative. He is married to Michal, a father of three children and lives in a Negev kibbutz.
