My life before BGU:
I was born in Orsha in the Soviet Union (today it is part of Belarus) and completed my high school studies at the Reali Hebrew School in Haifa. I studied for my undergraduate, Master's and PhD degrees in the Faculty of Physics at the Technion in Haifa. The topic of my PhD was localization in disordered nonlinear systems. These systems often appear in the field of nonlinear optics and also in cold atom systems. Then I completed a post-doc at Columbia University in New York, where I worked on the innovative field of many-body localization, which deals with strange systems that don't reach equilibrium.

My research:
I study systems which are out-of-equilibrium, like the cup of coffee that you are holding right now. We all know that coffee eventually cools down to room temperature, but how does this happen? Is it possible to control the rate of cooling by mixing for example? If you add milk and follow its movement in the coffee, what patterns will you see? Are there systems that don't reach equilibrium in a reasonable time, like the glass in your window? Now exchange the cup of coffee for quantum systems of cold atoms and you'll have some feeling of what I do.

I love to take trips and to snowboard.

When I grow up:
When I was small, I always wanted to be a doctor, but I had to “compromise" on being a PhD. Now I want to be a good team leader, a good mentor to students and to produce significant research.
If I wasn't a researcher, I would be:
probably in hi-tech or the finance industry.

Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad? Both are great, but I like Game of Thrones more.
An isolated cabin in nature or a pampering hotel in the city? A tent or a cabin in nature.
