My life before BGU:
I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, and there I completed my bachelor's degree in economics at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, specializing in macro-economics. I had wonderful lecturers with a lot of motivation and desire to provide the most up-to-date knowledge. At the age of 21 I immigrated to Israel. I completed my master's degree and PhD at Tel Aviv University. It was there I began to be interested in job market economics, all because of a course I took. I then did a post-doc for two year at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
My research:
I am interested in the factors that influence the development of people's careers, both men and women, in the job market. I am especially interested in using modeling tools in order to estimate the importance of the factors that are not necessarily directly measurable as data, such as human capital. Of course, I'm intrigued by everything that is connected to gendered pay gaps, and the different behavior of men and women in the job market.
Why BGU?
Because of the friendly and open atmosphere in the Department of Economics.
An insight from my research:
Maybe it's surprising, but with all the goodwill, it's very difficult to present policy in the free job market that will really help a target group. In many instances, those who opt to take part in a particular program are actually part of the stronger groups in the population. In addition, firms can react to policies – such as maternity leave payment and policy – and find ways to pass the burden onto the same workers through other channels, such as lower wages or fewer promotions. You have to take into consideration these rational behaviors when planning policy.

I sometimes like to write children's stories.
A source of inspiration:
There are many, including my colleagues in the department, my research partners and sometimes news and books.
When I grow up:During my childhood, I wanted to be a teacher, like a lot of girls. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be a literary translator. In another ten years hope I can look back and say that I published good research, that it was interesting work and that I succeeded in passing along my curiosity to students.
If I was not a researcher, I would be involved with:
perhaps literature.
