Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Faculty of Engineering Sciences
My life before BGU:
At the age of three, I made Aliya to Israel from the Ukraine with my family. I grew up in Karmiel, where my parents still live today. I completed my undergraduate degree in structural engineering at the Technion, where I went on to study for my PhD as well. I did my postdoc at the University of Toronto.
"I am inspired by successful people around me, regardless of where I am or what field they are in. I learn from them and try to be at least as successful as they are" |
My research:
I study the behavior of structures under conditions of extreme stress, for example, during an earthquake, or when a support column failure leads to a chain reaction of collapse throughout the structure (like a domino effect). My research combines simulation tools and highly controlled experimentation.
Why BGU?
I chose to come to BGU because of the people I’ve met here, and of course, because of the substantial support I’ve received to set up my research lab.
An insight from my research:
A wise researcher once told me: when you do computational research, you are the only person who believes the results. When you do experimental research, on the other hand, you are the only person who doesn’t believe the results. That is why my own research combines both 😊.
Something that doesn’t appear on my CV:
I am happily married to Moria and have two children: Golan who is four and Carmel who is a year old. In my spare time I exercise, travel with my family, volunteer, and read about economics.
A source of inspiration:
I am inspired by successful people around me, regardless of where I am or what field they are in. I learn from them and try to be at least as successful as they are.
When I grow up:
I will do what I do today, only better 😊
If I were not a researcher, I would…
Do engineering consulting combined with teaching.
