CS has some strong UNIX server for remote connections. This server contains many usable applications. coonecting may be done from inside the BGU network or by using VPN.
1. The first thing is to know the name of the pc you want to connect to… You can find the names at: https://www.cs.bgu.ac.il/~cswiki/faq/labs.html
You can only connect to a pc that is currently ON and running Linux
You can find that by "pinging" the pc and see if it responds and if it does, make sure that TTL is 64 (or 62) and not 128 (or 126)
2. The next stage is to connect using the command line or any app that support ssh (e.g putty/mobaxterm)
using the command line (usually from linux clients)run the command:
ssh -X <username>@<computer-name>.cs.bgu.ac.il , for example:
ssh -X email@example.comYou might see the following message:enter
yes and Enter
using putty/mobaxterm - with gui support (from windows/mac clients):For GUI support, you need to download and install Xserver (such as xming: https://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/)
make sure that xming is running in the background (see attached picture)
When using putty, go to "Connection" –> "SSH" –> "X11" and enable X11 forwarding
then, go back to "Session" and enter the hostname you wish to connect to and click "Open"
When using MobaXterm, start a new session
On the new session screen, make sure that the type of connection is SSH. Enter the hostname and your username Click on "Advanced SSH Settings" and make sure that "X11-Forwarding" is enabled
