BGU has begun to offer a new master’s degree for haredi psychologists in educational psychology through the Department of Education. The master's will be offered to graduates of the BA in psychology from the Haredi College in Jerusalem. The initiative began with BGU Rector Prof. Tzvi HaCohen as part of the Council for Higher Education’s program to encourage higher education in the haredi community. BGU’s Prof. Shifra Sagy and Rebbetzin Adina Bar-Shalom (pictured above) of Haredi College created the program. The goal is to train haredi and religious educational psychologists in the psychological services and education system of the haredi community.

Eleven haredi female students were chosen after meeting the high standards to acceptance into the program. The students will take mandatory courses for psychology students. In addition, unique courses will be offered such as “Educational Psychology in the Haredi Community,” “Foundations of Family Therapy,” and “The Therapeutic Interview – Skill Building.”  Field work will be done through three educational psychology services in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, and Modi’in-Illit.

This week a day-long celebratory seminar was held at the Haredi College in Jerusalem with psychologists from the Jerusalem district, lecturers in the program and the new students.
