Prof. Boris Zaltzman
New Director of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research Prof. Boris Zaltzman will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Minister of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption Sofa Landver in November celebrating his successful absorption from the Former Soviet Union.

To celebrate 25 years since their Aliyah and absorption and to mark their scientific contributions, the Ministry will be honoring those scientists who made the sometimes difficult transition to life in Israel.

“In October 1989, the gates of Aliyah from the Soviet Union were thrown open and since then, thousands of scientists have arrived from the Former Soviet Union and from around the world,” reads the letter from the Ministry, “The immigrating scientists encountered a reality of tough competition for every position and thus those who were absorbed as senior faculty proved their scientific excellence despite the difficulties of Aliyah and the necessity to adapt to a different research surrounding and research culture.”

On November 24, Landver will recognize those immigrant scientists who served in one of the senior administration positions at an Israeli university.

“I feel fortunate to be part of a truly historic event as the great Aliyah from the Soviet Union has been. Constantly carrying this feeling with oneself is both rewarding and obliging,” says Zaltzman.
