Alejandro C. Frery received the B.Sc. degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the Universidad de Mendoza, Argentina in 1985.

His M.Sc. degree was in Applied Mathematics (Statistics) from the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, 1990), and his Ph.D. degree was in Applied Computing from the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE, São José dos Campos, Brazil, 1993).

He is currently the leader of LaCCAN - Laboratório de Computação Científica e Análise Numérica, Universidade Federal de Alagoas, Maceió, Brazil. His research interests are statistical computing and stochastic modeling, with emphasis in SAR image processing and analysis.

Prof.  Bob McKercher

School of Hotel and Tourism Management

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Bob McKercher is a Professor of Tourism in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

He has been tourism academic since 1990, beginning his career at Charles Sturt University in Albury, NSW, Australia. Prior to that, he worked in the Canadian tourism industry in a variety of advocacy and operational roles, primarily in the nature-based sector. He received his PhD from the University of Melbourne in Australia, a Master's degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada and his undergraduate degree from York University in Toronto, Canada.

Currently, He is the President of the International Academic for the Study of Tourism. Prof McKercher has also been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Academy of Culture, and is a Fellow of the International Academic for the Study of Tourism; the Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education and; the International Academy of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research.

He has wide ranging research interests, having published books on such topics as cultural tourism, small business planning for nature-based tourism organizations, climate change and teaching. He has also published more than 300 papers, reports and studies.

Prof. Paolo Gamba

Telecommunications and Remote Sensing Laboratory

University of Pavia, Italy

GRSS Earth Observations workshop

Paolo Gamba is a Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Pavia, Italy, where he leads the Telecommunications and Remote Sensing Laboratory and serves as Deputy Coordinator of the Ph.D. School in Electronics and Computer Science. He received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering “cum laude" from the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1989, and the Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the same University in 1993.

He served as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters from 2009 to 2013, and as Chair of the Data Fusion Committee of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society from October 2005 to May 2009. Currently, he serves as GRSS Executive Vice President.

He has been the organizer and Technical Chair of the biennial GRSS/ISPRS Joint Workshops on “Remote Sensing and Data Fusion over Urban Areas" from 2001 to 2015. He also served as Technical Co-Chair of the 2010 and 2015 IGARSS conferences, in Honolulu (Hawaii), and Milan (Italy), respectively.

He has been the Guest Editor of special issues of IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE.

Journal of Selected Topics in Remote Sensing Applications, ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, International Journal of Information Fusion and Pattern Recognition Letters on the topics of Urban Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing for Disaster Management, Pattern Recognition in Remote Sensing Applications.

He has been invited to give keynote lectures and tutorials in several occasions about urban remote sensing, data fusion, EO data for physical exposure and risk management. He published more than 140 papers in international peer-review journals and presented nearly 300 research works in workshops and conferences.

Prof. Stefano Moroni

Stefano Moroni has a PhD in planning and policy analysis (University of Venice, Italy). He is currently full professor in Planning at Milan Polytechnic University (Italy). He is a member of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies. At Milan Polytechnic University he teaches “Land use ethics and the law" and “Planning theories". He is a member of the PhD board for the international doctorate in “Urban Planning, Design and Policy". He is a member of the editorial board of the international Journal “Planning Theory".

He mainly works on planning theory, applied ethics and legal philosophy. He has published several articles in international journals (Planning Theory; Journal of Urban Affairs; Town Planning Review; Land Use Policy; Cosmos and Taxis; Journal of Socio-Economics; GeoForum; Progress in Planning; City, Culture and Society; European Planning Studies; Energy Policy; Journal of Environmental Planning and Management; Cities; City, Territory and Architecture) and books with international publishers.

Prof. Ehud Meron

Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research & Physics Department
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

Ehud Meron is a professor of physics in the Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research and the Physics Department at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His research interests include nonlinear dynamics and pattern formation theory, complex systems, and spatial ecology with a focus on desertification, biodiversity and high-integrity human intervention. Prof. Meron is the author of the monograph Nonlinear Physics of Ecosystems, CRC Press 2015.

פרופ' יוסף אשכנזי

המחלקה לפיזיקה סביבתית

אוניברסיטת בן גוריון

פרופ' יוסף אשכנזי הוא חבר סגל במחלקה לפיזיקה סביבתית באוניברסיטת בן גוריון. הוא סיים דוקטורט בפיזיקה באוניברסיטת בר אילן בכאוס קוונטי ופוסט-דוק במכון הטכנולוגי של מסצ'וסטס (MIT).

פרופ' אשכנזי עוסק בדינמיקה של מערכת האקלים של עבר כדור הארץ והאקלים העכשווי.  בין היתר הוא חקר את תופעת כדור השלג (snowball) שהתרחשה לפני יותר מ 600 מיליון שנה, את עידני הקרח במיליוני השנים האחרונות, ותהליכי התיישבות באלפי השנים האחרונים. כמו כן חקר של תופעות אוקיינוגרפיות ואטמוספיריות כלליות, ניתוח נתונים ימיים ואטמוספיריים והסברים לתופעות נצפות. תחום המחקר כולל גם מודלים לכיסוי הצמחייה וקרומי קרקע על דיונות חול, ולאחרונה גם הדינמיקה של הקרח והים של הירח של צדק אירופה.
