The Rector is the academic head of the University and in this role chairs the Senate )the highest academic body of the university). The Rector holds all the authority required to fulfill this role in accordance with the University Constitution and General Statutes, as well as the Academic Statutes.

The Rector is elected by the Senate for a period of 4 years.

All academic bodies within the institution are under the Rector, as follows:

  1. Faculties – Faculty of  Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management, The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research.

  2. University Institutes &  Research Centers – The National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev, Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism, Ilse Katz Institute for Nanoscale Science & Technology, Heksherim Research Institute for Jewish & Israeli Literature & Culture, Homeland Security Institute,.

  3. Eilat Campus (Hebrew website).

  4. Kreitman School of Advanced Graduate Studies.

The Rector's office handles issues regarding academic staff, academic departments and units and teaching. These include: appointments and promotions, academic positions, evaluation committees, external affairs, research and study abroad, supporting conferences & books publication, the IDF relocation to the south etc.
