electrokinetic analyzer in surface analysis is used to investigate the zeta potential of macroscopic solids based on a streaming potential
and streaming current measurement. During a relative movement between the solid
and liquid phases, the diffuse layer is sheared off, thus creating a potential
difference: the streaming potential. The electrokinetic effects of streaming
potential, is suitable to determine the zeta potential of macroscopic solid
zeta potential is related to the surface charge at a solid/liquid interface and
is a powerful indicator for the surface chemistry (pH titration) and
liquid-on-solid surface adsorption processes. This information can improve
surface properties and the development of new specialized materials.
In addition, use the
surface zeta potential to predict electrostatic attraction or repulsion between
solutes and solid surfaces, for determining the material’s isoelectric point as
well as properties like material conductance, porosity, or swelling.
