The Ben-Gurion University (BGU) is seeking a highly qualified and innovative scientist to
lead a high-throughput sequencing core facility. This core facility will develop and
implement standardized and specialized library preparation protocols, provide sequencing
services, support novel method development and advise laboratory personnel in
experimental design and analysis. Once this state-of-the-art facility is established, the
leading scientist will be expected to develop a sustainable strategic plan, and work with
faculty to prioritize future instrumentation and services. The successful applicant will be a
visionary leader with significant experience in contemporary high-throughput sequencing
technologies and instruments, and in managing research personnel and technical staff. A
candidate with prior experience in directing and managing a sequencing core facility is
preferred.
Job Responsibilities
Develop, test, implement and evaluate new and creative approaches to meeting core lab and institutional goals.
Execute advanced next generation sequencing applications such as genomic DNA, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, small
RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq and custom sequencing libraries.
Collaborate with researchers, external agencies and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives.
Guide, involve and train researchers on the use of sequencing applications and data interpretation.
Follow recent developments in the field, evaluate, adapt and introduce new analytical tools within
the facility.
Work together with the bioinformatics team to develop complete work packages including data analysis
Contribute to the smooth running of the Genomics core facility (e.g. ordering, interaction with service engineers)
Direct personnel efforts in achieving the strategic plan for the facility
Required Education and Experience
PhD or equivalent in biology or a related field
Extensive and broad hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques
Experience in NGS library preparation (mRNA, total RNA, WGS), Library preparation for Single-cell applications (e.g
10X Genomics)
Precise documentation skills and experience in writing SOPs (Standard Operating procedures)
Additional Requirements
Proficiency in the use of a wide variety of lab techniques, research equipment and research related software.
Ability to work on the “bench”.
Communication, technical, and organizational skills.
Ability to handle and interpret data.
