Students in the Biomedical Engineering department enjoy a warm and personal atmosphere, an outstanding academic staff with a record of excellence in teaching, and a supportive community of first-rate peers. The department is in contact in particular with Israel’s vibrant high-tech and startup industries in biomedical applications. A few examples are: Itamar Medical, Nice systems inc., Ornim, MediWound, Soroka University Medical Center, Soreq Nuclear Research Center, and Alpha Omega Engineering inc..
Research specializations include:
Diagnosis and physiological monitoring using various technologies: optical, acoustic and biomarkers;
Mathematical modeling of biological processes: fluid flow, drug release, population dynamics, properties of biological membranes, neurophysiological processes, learning and adaptation of movement;
Robotics in clinical applications: telesurgery, robot-assisted surgery, haptic feedback, virtual environments;
Behavioral and neurophysiological aspects of motor learning and motor adaptation;
Mechanical Properties of biological membranes;
Optical properties of biological tissues.
Careers: Many alumni work in the high tech industry, specifically in in the medical equipment industry leading R&D teams or coordinating between clinical and engineering sides of product development. Quite a few have founded startups or become involved in early stages of startups in biomedical applications. Some continue to academic careers.
