With the goals of strengthening the Indian research framework, promoting a globally competitive environment for cutting edge research, and creating scientific and technological progress in India, Government of India has introduced a programme called VAJRA - Visiting Accelerated Joint Research Faculty.

VAJRA: The programme offers an opportunity for Israeli scientists to be associated as adjunct / visiting faculty with high quality Public funded Indian Institutions / Universities to undertake collaborative research . The scientists could co-guide research students and become co-investigators in projects, in addition to being involved in other activities like developing technology and setting up of start-ups . The tenure of VAJRA Faculty would generally be between 1 and 3 months a year with the option of extending the duration. They would receive a lump-sum of US$ 15000 during the first month and an additional US$ 10000 per month for the next two months to cover travel expenditure, honorarium etc. No separate support shall be provided towards accommodation, medical / personal insurance etc. under the programme, even though the Host Institute may consider providing these.

Selection: As the initial step, the Israeli scientist need to join hands with an Indian researcher, associated with a Public funded Indian Institution / Universitiy, and frame a research plan. A Selection Committee comprising eminent scientists will evaluate the the plan and declare the results.
