Global changes are a current issue that affects every aspect of our lives. Since the continuous measurements of CO₂ concentrations in the atmosphere began in 1959, the concentration has increased by more than 33%. In July 2023, the United Nations declared that the era of global warming has ended, and the era of global boiling has begun. This issue is urgent, and we must find solutions now.

In Genesis 2:15, the role of humanity in preserving the Earth is mentioned: "The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." This verse emphasizes the responsibility we have to protect our planet.

The solutions to this problem are complex and require a combination of research, education, and policy promotion. It is essential to connect the various forces in academia with public systems, education, industry, and the general population. Our joint effort is needed for the benefit of future generations.

The Goldman Sonnenfeldt School of Sustainability and Climate Change (GSC) was established as a unique, interdisciplinary institution, enabling the integration of various fields to create sustainable climate resilience. We are committed to providing solutions that will both slow down global changes and allow us to adapt to a changing world. The challenges we face are numerous, and only a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach that learns from the past and the present will enable sustainability in the future. As the head of the school, I am committed to excellence in research and education, and to fostering connections with the community, industry, and policymakers, in order to be an influential and significant force in Israel and globally. I hope that Ben-Gurion University will lead the way in sustainability and climate change in Israel.

Sincerely,

Prof. Shimon Rachmilevitch
Head of the Goldman Sonnenfeldt School of Sustainability and Climate Change
