The library catalogs are computerized using the Aleph system. The Aranne Library catalog includes: books, journals, films, maps, recorded lectures, research tools and more (in print and in electronic format). The catalog provides bibliographic details, e.g.: author's name, book title, publisher, place of publication, edition, subject headings - and in many cases links to the full-text.
In addition, the catalog provides holdings information: location, number of volumes, number of copies, circulation status (including the ability to place a “hold" on materials that have been checked out), etc. and an Interlibrary Loan form for requesting materials not in our collection.
Clicking on “Aleph Catalog – Aranne Library" limits the search to the Aranne Library collection.
Clicking on “The Ben-Gurion University Combined Catalog (Not including the Medical Library)" enables a simultaneous search in all the BGU libraries except for the Medical Library.
Clicking on “List of BGU Catalogs (Including the Medical Library)" enables the user to select a specific library or special collection.
To search for books in all the university and research libraries in Israel, select “ULI – The Israel Union Catalog".
To search journals in any format (print or electronic) in other Israeli libraries, select “ULS – The Israel Union List of Serials".
The Aranne Library catalog and the national catalogs can be accessed from the list of short cuts (the list of links on the left side of the home page).
Items not owned by the Aranne Library (books or articles) can be ordered from other libraries in Israel and abroad, using the Interlibrary Loan form located within the Aranne Library catalog.
In order to search the catalog of a specific academic library, click on “Israeli Academic Libraries".
To search library catalogs abroad, click on “Foreign Libraries".
Instruction in the use of the Aleph catalog
All Bachelor's Degree (First Degree) students are required to register for the computerized library instruction course. Although the course does not carry academic credits, it is a requirement for the Bachelor's Degree. One can register for the course during the regular registration period (before the start of the semester) or during the Change of Program period (first few weeks of the semester).
Advanced degree students and other libraryusers can view the course as guests.
