Goals of the Clerkship in Family Medicine

To familiarize medical students with the Primary Care setting, and with the special role of the family physician in the delivery of continuous, community- oriented care for family members of all ages.

To introduce students into the differences of epidemiology of diseases seen in primary and tertiary care settings and discuss the implications of these differences.

To teach students the recognition and management of common acute and chronic medical problems encountered in the community.

To show students the impact of social and psychological factors, as well as family dynamics on health and health behavior.

To introduce students into a patient-centered approach.
