Professor Cohen's research focusses on the advancement and development of novel bio-inspired materials as nano-sized delivery systems for therapeutics (nucleic acid, proteins) and as scaffolds in regenerative medicine.
 
Professor Cohen invented a biomaterial implant​ for treating acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) (now in pivotal clinical trials, pursued by BioLineRx (Jerusalem)/Ikaria Holding (NJ, USA)).
 
Professor Cohen received prestigious prizes; The Rappaport Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Biomedical Research; The Teva Founders Award for Breakthrough Research in Bio-Medical Sciences and Contribution to Science and State of Israel;  The ICRS award for Outstanding Achievements in in the field of Controlled Release in Tissue Regeneration Technologies; the JULUDAN Prize for Biomedical Research by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology; The Wolfson Research Award by The Israeli Academy of Science; and the Best Pharmaceutical Paper Award by the Controlled Release Society.

​Professor Cohen has been invited to give over 100 lectures and seminars; chaired 30 sessions, has 35 issued and pending US patents, is the author of over 110 papers in referred Journals, co-authored a book on Cardiac Tissue Engineering and edited two books. She serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal Annals in Biomedical Engineering, is an Executive Board Member of Tissue Engineering A, B,C and on the Editorial Board of the Biomatter. She is on the Scientific Advisory Board of several bio-nano-technology companies and serves as a member of the Magnet/Magneton/Nofar Committee of the Israel Ministry of Economics.
