​​The top two winners of the student lecture competition at the Israeli Environmental Conference 2019, held at Tel Aviv University last week, are both from the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, BGU

Elad Levintal of the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research was awarded first place with his lecture entitled "The role of atmospheric conditions in CO2 and radon emissions from an abandoned water well.    "

Elad's advisor is Prof. Noam Weisbrod. The work was carried out in collaboration with Dr. Hovav Tsafrir of the Israel Geological Survey and Prof. Maria Dragila of the University of Oregon (OSU), USA.

 In second place was Buzi Raviv from the French Associates Institute for Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands with his lecture entitled " The dead can nurture: Novel insights into the role of dead organs enclosing embryos in angiosperms."

Buzi's advisor is Prof. Gideon Grafi.
