The activities of the Ben-Gurion University Spokesperson's Office are similar to any other news bureau.
Specific services provided by the Spokesperson's Office include:

+ Advising faculties, departments, and individuals on media and public relations

Why is news coverage of the University important?

Today, Ben-Gurion University is a major center for teaching and research, with almost 20,000 students enrolled in the Faculties of Engineering Sciences, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business and Management and the Kreitman School of Advanced Graduate Studies.

In keeping with its mandate, Ben-Gurion University plays a key role in promoting industry, environment and agriculture and education in the Negev. Its students are known for their community-oriented activities, and thousands of them take part in special tutoring projects.

The University anticipates exciting challenges in innovative fields of research and it hopes to bring new opportunities to Beer-Sheva and the Negev while continuing its pursuit of academic excellence and expanding its contribution to the community.

How do I work with the Spokesperson's Office?

The Spokesperson's Office at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is much like a news bureau.

Arranging interviews and media visits with faculty and staff
Advising faculties, departments, and individuals on media and public relations

How far in advance should I provide the Spokesperson's Office with information?

It is never too early to advise the Office of the Spokesperson about a potential news story.

In terms of publicizing an event, the Spokesperson's Office should be informed at least one month prior to the event itself. For an unusually large-scale event, the time frame for notification may extend up to six months or even one year in advance.

What if I’m not sure if my news is of interest to the media?

Story ideas that make the best releases are those that affect and interest the public in general. Ask these questions about your potential news story:

1. How many people locally/nationally/internationally does it affect?

2. If your research project is coming to a close, does it yield some new information in your field? What are its practical applications? How far-reaching is it in scope?

3. If it is a grant or honor, what is distinctive about winning it? Is the grant the first of its type to be awarded in the state/world? Is it the largest monetary value? How prestigious is the honor?

4. If it is an event, how topical and interesting is it? Why should people attend?
