The PhD Program in Sociology and Anthropology

The PhD Program in Sociology and Anthropology is designed for students who have completed a Master's Degree in Sociology and Anthropology and completed their research thesis; it is also open to students with a master's degree from other disciplines who have successfully completed additional course work, including a research seminar, as determined by the MA departmental committee. In addition, the department offers students who excel in their MA studies the opportunity to begin doctoral studies prior to completing an MA research thesis.

The curriculum is designed individually by the students and their supervisors to reflect the skills and areas of knowledge required for their doctoral research. The department provides students with a doctoral dissertation writing workshop. Once every two years the doctoral workshop (instructors and participants) organizes a conference in which the department's doctoral students present their research and work in progress.
