The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR) recently hosted H.E. Helen Sophie Deller Klein, Ambassador of Ecuador to Israel. During her visit, Prof. Noam Weisbrod, BIDR director, introduced Ambassador Deller Klein to the innovative research in water, agriculture, and the environment underway at BGU's Sde Boker Campus.

Prof. Merav Seifan (SIDEER) and Dr. Vered Tzin (FAAB) presented their recent interdisciplinary work on desert flower scent emission, which combines ecology and desert agriculture.
Prof. Edo Bar-Zeev (ZIWR) discussed growing water shortages and the BIDR's research into mitigation methods. Ambassador Deller Klein was fascinated by these presentations and looked forward to paving the way for potential cooperation between the BIDR and Ecuador in many fields of arid zone research.
