Nidaa Khoury is a lecturer at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, teaching in the Department of Hebrew Literature, and as of 2011 also in The Program of Conflict Management and Resolution.
Her teaching subjects are: new Arabic literature in comparative perspectives - especially the Palestinian and Arabic numerous literature; gender issues from the Ottoman Era to the present; Women and Nationalism since the State foundation; and literary and social aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Touching upon the connecting threads between literature and psychology, She examines the origins of writing and the ways in which Palestinians and Israelis channel the struggle for self and group definition. In her teaching she has developed of a model for the enhancement of creativity, through a combined study of literature, culture, and the psychology of groups in struggle. This model enables assessment and analysis of the state of development of a society through its language use and literary-poetic expression. This model combines the four levels of: society, language, psychology, and creativity. Of course, all these issues and aspects are studied and experienced in the national-political context so unique to the Middle East.
In addition, she instructs in workshops for the development of creative thinking and writing, based on study material in literature, psychology, and philosophy. These workshops are designed for under-graduate and graduate students, in both Hebrew and Arabic, in the Hebrew Literature Dept. She teaches a course about multiculturalism in the Israeli society, in the Conflict Management and Resolution Program. At present she is editing a book about Palestinian-Israeli women's poetry in the shadow of struggle, and she is working at her book "post-monotheism".
