Dr. Noga Sverdlik, Head of the Lab

My research lies at the intersection of personality, social, organizational and educational psychology. Overall, I am interested in the impact of personal and cultural factors on individuals' behavior in social and educational contexts. I examine the interactive effects of personality (i.e., values, traits) and situational/societal factors on perceptions and experiences of the environment, among adolescents, students, parents and working adults in educational systems, including schoolteachers, and principals.

I divide my research into three main streams, aimed at understanding and explaining: (a) internal conflicts and ambivalence; (b) prosocial values, moral perceptions and behavior; and (c) initiation of change and reactions to it.

A phd student at the department of education and an intern in educational psychology. Her study focuses on the effects of existential threat on prosocial values as a function of individual's political orientation. Specifically, drawing on Terror Management theory, she is interested in understanding the factors that underlie different reactions to existential threat, such as post-traumatic symptoms and the extent to which the individual is exposed to the threat. Moreover, her study investigates the role of the type of threat one is exposed to in this relationship, and therefore focuses on different circumstances in which existential threat is naturally salient, i.e., war, terror events and life threatening disease.
