The synapse is the site at which neuronal communication takes place. The Gitler lab studies the structure and function of the presynaptic terminal of the synapse, with an emphasis on the proteins which control the clustering of synaptic vesicles and their readiness for release.
Of special interest are the synapsins, which reversibly cluster synaptic vesicles and regulate their availability for release and alpha-synuclein, which is a major vesicle-associated protein that is firmly tied to Parkinson's Disease.

Positions available for graduate (M.Sc. or PhD) students or postgraduates. Inquire by email at: gitler@bgu.ac.il
