Regional Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research (RADAR) Center

The Ben Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) - Regional Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research (RADAR) Center conducts research, education and training about relevant health and well-being issues including substance misuse. The United States National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has given recognition and award to the RADAR Center for its “contributions to scientific diplomacy through outstanding efforts in international collaborative research.”


Established in 1996, the BGU - RADAR Center works with international organizations agencies including NIDA, US Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), US Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Initiative (UNICRI), Israel Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Education, and Social Affairs/Services, and universities world-wide.  


From its beginning, the BGU RADAR Center has been an "outpost" for health and substance misuse research and policy purposes.  It has continued in this capacity longer than any similar non-government, academic based center in the Middle East.

Dr. Darwin Telias, a psychiatrist and pioneer in prevention and treatment services for people with addiction, worked with Prof. Isralowitz for more than 20 years in areas of education, training and research promoting RADAR Center efforts.
