More than 800 senior faculty members and about 1,100 junior faculty members, together with their research students, work in state-or-the-art laboratories and in more than 60 interdisciplinary research centers. In addition to its successes and achievements in basic research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev also focuses on applied research. Unique solutions in a variety of fields attract institutions from around the world. Through its technology transfer company, B.G. Negev Ltd, which is also responsible for the University's patent portfolio, BGU initiates, leads and implements numerous projects and translates scientific breakthroughs into applications and solutions that attract strategic partners and investors from the fields of science, technology and industry.
The government of Israel recently announced its intention to transform Beer-Sheva into Israel's cyber capital, including the transfer of select IDF intelligence and communications units to the region, as part of a national cyber innovation arena that will leverage BGU's capabilities in this field. The University also promotes close collaborations and unique projects with leading global and Israeli hi-tech firms at the Advanced Technologies Park, adjacent to the University's main campus, such as: DB Motion, EMC2, Elbit, Lockheed-Martin, Deutche-Telekom, RSA, Ness Technologies, Oracle, Google, and others.
