The aging of Israel's population, as
well its rising life expectancy, have created a pressing need for trained
professionals who will address the unique needs of this group and their
families. To this end, the Master's program in Gerontology was inaugurated at
Ben-Gurion University of the Negev's Faculty of Health Sciences in 1999.
The Program, which now operates through
the Department of Public Health, has the following missions:
- To train researchers, and experts in care, as well as managers of
institutions and organizations that provide services for the elderly.
- To serve as a resource for consultation and sounding board for innovation
to professionals in the field, through assessment of community and
institutional services, and through interventions in various social and health issues.
- To be a home for research, education and services on the topic of
aging in collaboration and cooperation with the community.
