The ASL is also involved in studying aeolian processes and corresponding palaeoenvironments and palaeoclimates that occurred during the late Quaternary in the Eastern Mediterannean region and their relation with prehistoric, historic and modern man.
The ASL holds an archive of sand samples from Eastern Mediterannean sand and dune bodies. The archive includes several hundred samples of aeolian sands (many sampled for OSL) obtained from fully cored sections in the northwestern Negev dunefield (Israel), surface aeolian sands and sediments from the northern Sinai dunefield and splits of Nile Delta (Egypt) sands from the J.D. Stanley Smithsonian collection. In addition the archive has selected samples from the dunefields of southern Israel and the coast of Israel.
