Dr. Maria Alvanou is a criminologist (PhD University of Trento) specialized in terrorism.
She is a member of the ITSTIME Italian Team for Security,
Terroristic Issues & Managing Emergencies of the Catholic University in Milan
and a Senior Analyst at the RIEAS Research Institute for European and American Studies in Athens.
A defence lawyer appointed at the Hellenic Court of Appeals, she is also a special court evaluator for terrorism cases and a lecturer at the Police Officers' Post Educational Academy-
Department of Thessaloniki for crimes of special violence, national security and terrorism.
Her LLM in History, Philosophy and Sociology of Law was acquired at the Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki.


Amidror, Yaakov
Maj. Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror served in the IDF for more than thirty years holding various positions, primarily in the Intelligence Directorate. Most recently was Military Secretary to the Minister of Defense
and Commander of the IDF’s Colleges.
Upon retirement, he was a senior research fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
He published a book on military and security affairs and has received an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Haifa.
 

Aviran, Gadi

Gadi Aviran is one of Israel's leading authorities in the field of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Improvised Explosive Devises (IED) Disposal, and nowadays gains excellent reputation in the small community of technical terror threat analysts worldwide.

Gadi has spent over seven years in the field of technical intelligence analysis, serving as the head of the technical intelligence analysis desk in the production division of the IDF's Military Intelligence directorate (five years in active duty and three in reserve).
He was personally responsible for the threat research and assessment deriving
from post incident information and classified & unclassified intelligence information.

Yuval Elovici is the director of Deutsche Telekom Laboratories at BGU, and a senior lecturer at the department of Information Systems Engineering, Ben-GurionUniversity.
He holds B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the Ben-GurionUniversity of the Negev, and Ph.D in Information Systems from Tel-Aviv University.
His main research interests are information warfare, data mining, information retrieval, and detection of malicious code.

Dr. Golubev is the Founder and Director of the Computer Crime Research Center (CCRC), the Reader of the Department of operative and detective activity, special equipments and informational technologies(DUI), professor at the Criminal process and criminalistics department of the Zaporizhzhya National University(ZNU), independent expert, member of the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council, member of the UN "Prevention of crimes and criminal justice" program(ISPAC), member of International Police Association.
He has more than 12 years experience of scientific teaching work, he is the author of eight books, over 115 journal articles and book chapters, and numerous conference papers.
His area of research is organizational legal problems of counteraction to computer crime and cyber terrorism, issues of cyber crime investigation.

Dr. Grossman is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Clemson University, his M.S.in Computer Science from American University
and a Ph.D. in Information Technology from George Mason University.
He has co-authored a textbook: Information Retrieval:
Algorithms and Heuristics and is currently the associate director of the IIT Information Retrieval Lab.
He teaches information retrieval and data mining courses.
His research focuses on the problems surrounding the integration of structured and unstructured data, XML search, and data mining.

Carmon, Yigal

He served as a Colonel in the  IDF Intelligence from 1968-88, was the acting head and adviser on Arab affairs, Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, 1977-1982.

Keim, Daniel

Prof. Daniel Keim is full professor and head of the Information Visualization and Data Analysis Research Group at the University of Konstanz, Germany.
He has been actively involved in information visualization and data analysis research for more than 10 years and developed a number of novel visual exploration techniques for very large data sets.
He has been program co-chair of the IEEE InfoVis and IEEE VAST symposia as well as the SIGKDD conference, and he is member of the IEEE InfoVis steering committee.
He is an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (since 2002) and Palgrave’s Information Visualization Journal (since 2001), Knowledge and Information System Journal (since 2006), and has been an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (1999 – 2004).
Dr. Keim got his masters degree in computer science from the University of Dortmund and his Ph.D. and habilitation degrees in computer science from the University of Munich.
Before joining the University of Konstanz, Dr. Keim was associate professor at the University of Halle, Germany and Technology Consultant at AT&T Shannon Research Labs, NJ, USA. 
 

Koppel, Moshe

Moshe Koppel is Associate Professor of Computer Science in Bar-Ilan University.
He received his PhD in Mathematics from New York University and did post-doctoral work at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

including applications in the area of security. He consults in industry
on technical and financial matters and serves as an advisor in the

Dr. Mark Levene is a  Professor in the School of Computer Science and Information Systems at Birkbeck, University of London, where he is a member of the Information Management and Web Technologies research group.

he has been active in business, doing business intelligence and risk management services as well as business consulting for major international and Polish companies.
Mr Luks is involved with the formulation of the National Critical Infrastructure Protection Program, coordinated by the Polish Ministry of the Interior and is a Standing Advisor to the Special Services Committee of the Polish Parliament (intelligence oversight equivalent).


Paass, Gerhard

Gerhard Paass has a degree in mathematics and computer science and is head of the text mining group at Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS).
Currently his group is involved in two activities related to the workshop topic.
They develop filtering algorithms to detect spam and phishing emails in massive email streams with an emphasis on adaptive filters.
In addition they are involved in a long-term research effort to extend algorithms for entity extraction, semantic annotation and relation extraction to new domains and improve their capabilities

He is also the Director of MIAS, a DHS Institute of Discrete Science Center for Multimodal Information Access & Synthesis.
His work is in machine learning and knowledge representation and reasoning, with a focus on natural language processing and information access.
He has published broadly in these areas and have developed several machine learning based natural language processing systems that have been used and licensed widely.
He has won a number of paper, software and other research and teaching awards.

Professor Andrew Silke (BSc Hons, AFBPsS, PhD) is the Field Leader for Criminology and the Director of Terrorism Studies at the University of East London . He has a background in forensic psychology
and has worked both in academia and for government.
Professor Silke has published extensively on issues to do with terrorism, crime and policing in journals, books and the popular press.
His previous books include 'Terrorists, Victims & Society: Psychological Perspectives on Terrorism and Its Consequences' (Wiley, 2003) and 'Research on Terrorism: Trends, Achievements and Failures' (Frank Cass, 2004). His latest books Suicide Terrorism (Wiley), and Terrorism Informatics (Springer) are due to be published in the coming year. He is the author of over 80 articles and papers on subjects relating to terrorism,organised crime, policing and criminal behaviour and has given numerous papers and invited lectures on these topics at conferences and universities across the world.
