The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute for Social and Cultural Research

The Humphrey Institute for Social and Cultural Research operates as an independent faculty research center in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The institute was founded in 1978 and promoted interdisciplinary activities, addressing key social issues and aiming to promote the society in the Negev, in Israel and throughout the world through social and cultural thought and research. The institute promotes academic and applied research and initiates faculty seminars on both theoretical and practical issues. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev works to position it as a cross-border body, connecting disciplines in the faculty, researchers and doctoral students, and academia and the general public. It encourages excellence among students and young researchers in the humanities and social sciences, while imparting research and knowledge skills, and deepening the strategic thinking abilities of its peers. The institute launches a post-graduate seminar on a specific theme on a yearly basis. Each year eight fellows are accepted to the seminar, which operates as a think-tank and a nourishing discursive and scientific platform. The Humphrey Institute publishes an international peer-reviewed journal, Hagar, which is managed by the institute's fellows.
