Congratulations! Prof. Erez Gilad won a research grant from Noga - The Israel Independent System Operator Ltd! This grant is an excellent opportunity to advance our nuclear energy research further and contribute to developing smart management methods for NuScale SMR fuel.

micro5 - Copy.jpgOur proposal addresses one of the most crucial aspects of managing a nuclear power station - the optimal cycle planning and intelligent management of the nuclear fuel inventory in a NuScale SMR nuclear power station. The economic and operational implications of managing the nuclear fuel inventory in an SMR power station are far-reaching, affecting the power station’s safety, availability, and financial viability.

The NuScale SMR power station is an innovative and groundbreaking power station that has been the first to receive approval from the US regulator (NRC) in about 40 years. The station can provide up to about 840 megawatts of continuous (baseload) electricity without carbon emissions, making it an excellent source of reliable and sustainable energy.

Developing a unique, innovative, and advanced method for optimal cycle planning and intelligent management of the nuclear fuel inventory in a NuScale SMR nuclear power station will enable a more efficient and cost-effective use of the power station’s resources. This will result in optimized utilization of uranium in fuel rods, improvement of safety parameters of the nuclear core, and rapid and optimal response to changes and contingencies such as security events, global crises, etc.

The proposed research will contribute significantly to the field of nuclear energy and will pave the way for more efficient, reliable, and sustainable power generation. We are delighted to win the research grant and hope to do great science in this research endeavor.
