Water and Afforestation

Water Balance and Forest Growth

In drylands, water is of central concern, because in arid and semi-arid regions vegetative growth fluctuates sharply with precipitation. There, foresters and others seek the aid of researchers who are able to measure water balances, factors predicting the effects of nature and human activity on plant productivity and local water status. Such collaboration leads to more successful afforestation projects, benefiting society and the environment alike.
