Water Pollution

Abating Water Pollution in the Negev

Ramat Hovav is Israel’s largest chemical industrial complex; it also includes the country’s National Site for Treatment of Hazardous Waste. Due to early reports of water-table pollution near the site, geologists, hydrologists, and microbiologists have been working for over to 15 years tracing the movement of water and toxic wastes through the local bedrock into the aquifer. Ways were suggested to contain the polluted groundwater and to avoid downstream contamination. New research aims at detoxifying the polluted, shallow aquifer.
