The Photovoltaic Conundrum​

Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research scientists are developing approaches that improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells producing electricity directly from sunlight. They focus on devices that concentrate solar irradiation to increase solar cell output. The scientists are also examining sophisticated plastic photovoltaics that are easy to produce for large-area solar energy programs. But energy transformation efficiencies and plastic stability under long-term solar irradiation must still be improved.​​​
