1. Aids and oversees operation of the Executive Committee;
  2. Aids in bringing knowledge of the LTER approach to organizations that support environmental research;
  3. Aids in bringing knowledge of the LTER approach to the member organizations of the Steering Committee;
  4. Engages in long-range planning in the areas of science, organization, and finances; and
  5. Aids international cooperation​.
