Dune Research

Dunes: Climate and Stability

Sand dunes are a major challenge to ecologists, physicists and geologists alike: Why do some of them shift, at times laying populated regions to waste, while others remain fixed? Researchers at the Department of Geography and Environmental Development and the BIDR are advancing the physics of dune migration, particularly clarifying the central role of wind in this process.
