Raising Fish in the Desert​

Fish farming is a major weapon for combating the overfishing that endangers wild marine and freshwater species. Investigators at the Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research have shown how aquac​ulture can be greatly expanded by exploiting desert areas with underground water reserves for raising fish. Such​ brackish aquifers are found in arid regions throughout the world, including the Israeli Negev.​
